Stainless Steel Bar Fridges: 304 vs 316, Finishes and Door Styles
A stainless steel bar fridge looks sharp, cleans easily and suits both modern kitchens and outdoor bars. But stainless is not all the same. This guide explains the grades, the door styles and which models to look at.
304 vs 316 stainless steel
304 is the common grade used on many appliances and suits indoor use. 316 marine grade stainless steel offers better corrosion resistance, so it holds up better to salt air, pool chemicals and humidity. In our range:
- 316 marine grade: the ENVY outdoor models, including the Rhino ENV1R-SS, Rhino ENV2H-SS and Rhino ENV3H-SS.
- 304 grade: the Schmick SK118R-SS and SK118L-SS glass door models, listed as 304 stainless steel with heated, triple glazed glass.
If the fridge will live near the coast or a pool, choose 316. For indoor use, 304 is fine.
Solid stainless door or glass door with a stainless frame
There are two stainless styles:
- Solid stainless door: a clean, uniform look that hides the contents and suits spots where you do not want a display. Examples include the Schmick SK146R-SD at 164 litres and the Rhino ENV1R-SD.
- Glass door with a stainless frame: shows the drinks, with a stainless finish around the glass. Many Rhino SG and Schmick SK models use this style.
Sizes with a stainless finish
In our catalogue, around 32 models are listed with a stainless steel name or finish, across sizes from a 60 litre solid door unit to large double door units. Browse our alfresco bar fridges for outdoor models and our single door bar fridges for indoor ones.
Caring for a stainless fridge
- Wipe with a soft cloth and mild detergent, following the manufacturer instructions.
- Avoid abrasive pads that scratch the surface.
- Wipe along the grain of the steel where it is visible.
- Stainless can show fingerprints, so keep a cloth handy.
Stainless steel bar fridge FAQs
Does stainless steel rust?
Stainless resists rust, but it is not immune, especially in salty or chemical-heavy environments. Marine grade 316 is the better choice there.
Is a stainless steel bar fridge good outdoors?
Yes, if it is listed for outdoor use, kept under cover and ideally 316 grade near the coast. Read our outdoor kitchen fridge guide.
Stainless or black?
It is mostly about style. Compare our black bar fridge guide.
Choosing the right stainless fridge
Decide where the fridge will live first. For an outdoor kitchen or a coastal home, look at the 316 marine grade models. For a kitchen or bar indoors, 304 stainless or a stainless frame around a glass door is usually enough. Then compare capacity, dimensions and the energy rating on each product page.
